In November, I discussed how Infoblox was leading the way to a SASE-centric future with our cloud-native BloxOneTM Platform and initial set of network and security services: BloxOneTM DDI for core network services and BloxOneTM Threat Defense for DDI-based security services.
Shortly afterwards, our vision for this edge-centric future was validated when Infoblox was recognized as one of The Software Report’s Top 25 Cybersecurity Companies of 2019, in large part for the innovative way we’ve used DDI services to detect, isolate, and mitigate network threats before they can cause damage.
It’s a great accomplishment, and we’re incredibly proud that our work in cybersecurity is being recognized more widely.
But today, I want to discuss the role security plays in Gartner SASE, and why cloud-native delivery of security services is such an important part of any SASE-based platform.
Security is an integral part of Gartner SASE
Gartner’s SASE model represents the convergence of traditional WAN edge management capabilities with security into a cohesive whole, built using cloud-native principles and architectures. Based on the original research note by Gartner, any SASE-based platform must have the following attributes:
- Cloud-native architectures with containerized microservices
- Integrated network and security services
- Cloud-managed on-demand services
- Centralized policy control
- Local survivability
The demands of a SASE-enabled network are inextricably linked to the requirements of the digital enterprise and edge computing. As organizations adopt these new deployment models, users no longer access a majority of applications and services within the enterprise data center, which is forcing companies to fundamentally change from a data-centric model to an edge-centric model. In this new paradigm, network administrators need to deliver security services and others remotely, at scale, and only where and when needed. They need to ensure that an organization’s network security is robust, efficient, and fully responsive to the dynamic security environment.
BloxOneTM Threat Defense: A truly cloud-native security solution
Infoblox’s approach to cybersecurity is built on the insights we’ve learned through 20 years of leadership in networking and DDI to turn these critical network services into fundamental security assets. BloxOneTM Threat Defense provides a foundational layer of security, that enables your entire security stack to work in unison and at Internet scale to detect and anticipate threats sooner and stop them faster.
With BloxOneTM Threat Defense, customers can use the service entirely via the cloud, entirely on-prem, or via a hybrid deployment that leverages a combination of the two deployment models. The service scales elastically to provide an infrastructure that adapts to changing traffic patterns and workloads in an enterprise network. Through API based integrations, BloxOneTM Threat Defense works seamlessly with an organization’s existing security stack, significantly enhancing its effectiveness and efficiency.
Together with BloxOneTM DDI, our cloud-managed solution for these core network services, the BloxOneTM Platform embodies the Infoblox approach to SASE-based networking. It unites network and security services in a fully cloud-native and cloud-delivered solution that will enable organizations to fully adapt to the demands of the business environment. It’s the future of networking, built by Infoblox today. And we’re just getting started.
