Infoblox has lots of “try before you buy” options, and we’re adding one more. In addition to the Infoblox Advanced DNS Protection (ADP) proof-of-concept evaluation we recently announced, we’ve also upgraded our Infoblox DNS Firewall proof-of-concept virtual evaluation.
Last November, we started offering our hassle-free 60-day virtual evaluation, letting customers and prospects with VMware hypervisors install our software to see exactly what kind of DNS traffic was coming out of their servers. It revealed that a lot of customers had malware installed on their systems and didn’t know it.
Now we’ve improved on that even further. Instead of customers or prospects having to install our evaluation software, they can capture as little as fifteen minutes of their DNS query traffic in a data file using Wireshark and send the file to Infoblox for evaluation.
Once we get the data, we analyze it and get back to prospects with an executive report that shows them what they might not have known about their DNS server: advanced persistent threats and malicious queries going out to unauthorized domains and more. It is simpler and faster than ever before.
And because we’re doing this analysis with the DNS server, rather than a traditional perimeter firewall, we have a different view of malware. Firewalls can provide a lot of protection, but they may not look at DNS traffic in as granular or as focused a way as Infoblox’s DNS-based solution can. With DNS Firewall installed, Infoblox can be the choke point for malware that uses DNS to call home, disrupting the communications before they happen, no matter what the device (iPad, a PC, a laptop, or other). We’ve even found malware on embedded medical devices.
