Companies big and small are struggling to protect themselves from a growing number of cyber threats, investing a lot of money in a wide range of solutions, but many still don’t feel completely safe. That’s why I’m excited to announce that Infoblox has acquired IID, a leader in global cyber threat intelligence.
By adding IID’s world-class technology and people to Infoblox, we will be able to offer a new level of threat protection to our customers.
Let me explain. No perimeter defense is strong enough to prevent all attacks, and security teams struggle to understand the breadth and depth of malicious activity within their networks. Furthermore, they may be getting security alerts, but they are overwhelmed by the number of these alerts and lack the business context to prioritize responding to them.
Infoblox is the industry leader in managing DNS, DHCP and IP addresses – the category known as DDI, and we began offering secure DNS solutions almost three years ago. The Domain Name System (DNS) is now tied with http as the most targeted service for application-layer attacks and is the number one protocol used in reflection/amplification attacks, according to leading security reports.
Infoblox can watch for suspicious DNS traffic, then instantly block outbound communications to malicious destinations, preventing exfiltration of intellectual property, customer information, and other sensitive data. And, because DNS sits at the center of the network, Infoblox solutions hold large amounts of data that can add context to security alerts, making it possible to assess actual risk and decide on the appropriate type of response.
IID (www.internetidentity.com) collects threat data from thousands of trusted sources including law enforcement agencies, Internet infrastructure providers and open-source providers. Their threat research team verifies, enhances and aggregates this data to deliver clear, high-quality threat intelligence through IID’s ActiveTrust platform.
Bringing together this deep and very rich threat intelligence information from IID with the central position of Infoblox in the enterprise network allows us to give customers an unfair advantage over cybercriminals: Security alerts that are paired with contextual network data to show exactly where threats are hitting their networks.
Of course, everyone realizes that no single vendor can grasp the entire picture of global security threats. The only way to build truly effective security is through strength in numbers – in other words, through automated sharing of threat information between security solutions. In some cases this information sharing can even be between organizations, for example within an industry or across a supply chain.
Infoblox and IID are both committed to the emerging standards for automated threat intelligence sharing – such as STIX and TAXII – so that Infoblox is now better positioned than ever to become a platform within enterprise networks for both collected and distributing threat information.
You’ll be hearing more from Infoblox in the weeks and months ahead on how our security portfolio is growing stronger, thanks to the boost we’re getting from IID. We’ll also continue providing IID’s customers with world-class threat intelligence.
