The point of DevOps is efficiency. By bringing developers, business analysts, and others together in the IT development process, companies can create and update applications faster, with cleaner results. While the adoption of DevOps principles and platforms is still nascent in the enterprise, savvy companies understand its fundamental value proposition: reduced cost, faster feature delivery, and improved outcomes.
Tools like Chef help ratchet up both the development and deployment processes. Chef tackles the configuration management and automation side of deployment, helping to set up and maintain not only a company’s servers, but its connections to cloud-based platforms as well – and do it in an efficient, highly automated fashion.
Here at Infoblox, an increasing number of enterprise customers are asking us about how we’re integrating with tools like Chef. They want to use newer platforms to automate the build/test/deliver process, while at the same time connecting these delivery pipelines into their existing Infoblox grids. That’s why we’re working with Chef to accelerate the all-important facet of DNS configuration of servers, whether they’re internal or externally located. Together with Chef Software, we recently sponsored a new Infoblox cookbook on the Chef Supermarket, a community site for Chef users to share cookbooks (https://supermarket.chef.io/cookbooks).
Chef uses the idea of recipes and cookbooks – essentially, the steps for taking specific component ingredients and putting them together to create something even tastier. A Chef cookbook configures and deploys any and all resources necessary for a host and application to function. The Infoblox cookbook adds capabilities to assign IP addresses and configure DNS records.
Both companies saw an opportunity to break down silos that still exist in many organizations, barricading network operations from application development and delivery teams. DevOps is about bringing people together and empowering them to lead innovation in the digital economy. We are happy to be join with Chef Software to allow our mutual customers to bring together our best-of-breed solutions to enhance speed, agility, and automation in their organizations.
We’d love to hear your feedback on the cookbook and invite you to collaborate with us on bringing it forward. Contact us at chef-support@infoblox.com.
