We have just concluded our community webinar showcasing a very exciting data science project at Infoblox. Presented by Mayana Pereira, Data Scientist at Infoblox, this webinar focused on how we can use machine learning to detect dictionary DGAs (domain generation algorithms) that are becoming increasingly difficult to detect as they look like legitimate domains for an unsuspecting eye.
Mayana spoke on several items including the following:
a) What are DGAs and dictionary DGAs
b) How botnets evolved from using easily detectable DGAs to very deceptive dictionary DGAs that use dictionary words
c) What approaches are required to detect these DGAs
d) Finally, she commented on how Infoblox is thinking about incorporating the results of the project into its products.
