Although the site is live, we continue to develop areas that will help you. This weekly series of Community Tips & Tricks blog posts will highlight many of the new features of the site.
This week, Search Features:
The Community search feature is incredibly powerful. If you’re not familiar with how community search works, here’s some helpful info. Read the rest of this blog to learn how to search by:
- User
- Type of content – video, image, attachment
- Type of post – blog, forum
- Most kudos, etc.,
- Author
- “Category” (forums only, blogs only, etc.,)
The most notable change to the site is the homepage search feature. Type in the topic, and the site will auto-search and auto-fill content that may relate to your search string. It’s always a great place to start, as your question may have been asked, and answered, by other users.
Similarly, the top navigation will have the search functionality built as well. Pretty obvious, but what you may not realize is you can search different areas of the site (must be logged in).
You can search for a User, Blog Post, Forum/Download Category. For example, to search for a user, type in the username. To the right of the text box, you can select “Community” or change this option to “User” to find someone in particular.
Here’s a few additional helpful notes. Searching from the homepage searches the entire site. However, if you navigate to a “forum area,” you can search blogs, categories, users, etc by changing the selection criteria from the right box (see below). There are also advanced search features to further refine your search:
Advanced Search Functions allow you to Select additional options including most kudos, total views, author, date, type of post (blog, forum) and content type (video, download, etc.,)
