With NIOS 8.5.2 release, we’re happy to announce the general availability of Infoblox vNIOS appliance to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Customers can now run vNIOS on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) in addition to Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) public clouds platforms.
The NIOS virtual appliance (vNIOS) for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) provides an integrated, secure, and easy-to-manage DNS (Domain Name System), DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), and IPAM (IP address management) service. The NIOS 8.5.2 release enables the customers to deploy the Cloud Platform appliance (CP-2205) on OCI as a grid-member to provide DNS, DHCP (for on-prem clients), and IPAM services to applications and services running on OCI or outside of it.
Automated provisioning of applications and services on OCI
Extend your Infoblox NIOS grid to OCI. The CP-2205 appliance running on OCI enables automated provisioning of apps and services. API requests can be sent directly to the CP appliances for DNS and IPAM automation without routing those through the Grid Master. This also enables customers to distribute the Infoblox grid traffic across the enterprise network and OCI.
Local survivability of API requests for IPAM and DNS automation
Since the API requests can be made directly to the CP appliance running on OCI, the IPAM and DNS automation, and DNS/DHCP protocol services will continue to function on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) if there is a network outage and the connectivity between the OCI region and your datacenter goes down.
Scale out performance as you grow your infrastructure on OCI
If you intend to deploy your apps and services across multiple OCI regions, you can deploy multiple CP-2205 appliances across these OCI regions that would act as local DDI platforms, synching data with the Grid Master periodically so you still have consolidated visibility into your applications and services across your on-prem and cloud platforms.
Since the CP appliances allow cloud API requests, our supported plugins for tools such as Ansible and Terraform enable customers to integrate these appliances running on OCI into their DevOps automation workflows.
