Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a woman for all women. A leader in the movement toward equality for women. Her legacy is never debated. She was a trailblazing attorney, associate Supreme Court justice, and pioneer whose legacy was cemented in her belief that the meaning of life is to make life a little better for people less fortunate than ourselves. She firmly believed that we live not just for ourselves, but for our community. One of those communities is our community of women.
Known for her progressive votes on many important issues, she fiercely fought for same-sex marriage, abortion, affirmative action, and healthcare. I could go on and on. The point of all this is that women and men should empower women. This doesn’t have to be a fight. Although we lost a revered icon in RBG, we can carry on her legacy – by living our beliefs just as RBG did. We can lift each other up just by being passionate and present with one another.
We all have the power to influence outcomes. Our power is in how we maneuver the human rights agenda ahead of us to enlist the influence of the masses We’ve held up RBG’s example at Infoblox by carrying on her legacy, building on our Women at Infoblox (W@IN) initiative. As RBG was quoted in a 2009 interview with USA Today, “Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn’t be that women are the exception.”
W@IN is a leadership role – often where decisions are made. At Infoblox, we are helping the advancement of women by providing a supportive forum where we share information, learn together and empower each other to pursue our goals.
We encourage everyone in the company to join us in our journey. As more of us take part in our community or start other communities, we empower those less privileged or less fortunate to thrive. As RBG said, “Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time.”— Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
As I wrote in my last blog, we’re on the right trajectory to elevate women in leadership. Together, we can use our combined intuition to create the cultures where all employees feel valued and heard. Let’s set one another up for success in leadership roles and keep RBG’s legacy alive with our passion and presence for equality.
